The to-do list

I had a number of ideas about interesting things to do on the trip.  Here is the list that I came up with:

  • Play hockey in every state and province ✓ done!
  • Play soccer (✓ done!), water polo, and lacrosse as a goalie
  • See the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto ✓ Done
  • Go to homecoming at Rose ✓ Done
  • Find the best cinnamon roll on the Alaska Highway ✓ Done
  • Visit Banff NP in Alberta ✓ Done
  • Visit Denali NP in Alaska ✓ Done
  • Visit Yellowstone NP in Wyoming ✓ Done
  • Drive all of PCH, from the tip of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington to San Diego, California ✓ Done
  • Drive the Beartooth Highway near Yellowstone NP ✓ Done
  • Visit the Salton Sea in California ✓ Done
  • Visit Smoky Mountain NP in Tennessee / North Carolina ✓ Done
  • Be in an intermission goalie race
  • See Spiderman: The Musical and Book of Mormon in New York not enough time
  • Hike Mt. Washington in New Hampshire the summit was closed (and had been for several days) due to winter conditions
  • Visit Acadia NP in Maine didn’t fit in the schedule
  • See the Tobacco Festival in Kentucky going to be in Canada during the festival
  • Make a video of every save and goal too late for this
  • Learn to make fire by rubbing two sticks together why did I put this on here?
  • Work temporarily on a farm or fishing boat
  • Go sailing didn’t get to it on the trip, but I’ve gone sailing many times in the past
  • Go sea kayaking would have been fun
  • Visit Garden of the Gods in Colorado not on this trip
  • Drive Going to the Sun Road in Glacier NP won’t fit in the schedule
  • See Alaska in the Winter won’t fit in the schedule

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to do everything, but that just means there are more adventures to be had on a future trip!

Awesome Jeff. I can get you on a sailboat (weather depending) on a large body of water in MN, VT, ME, NY, and FL with 72 hours notice, free of charge. Also, I suspect a subset of your friends who travel too much for their jobs would trade a FF flight to HI for a nominal fee. Bon Voyage! I hope to see you at homecoming.

Your “similar treks” listing needs http://www.welcometoamerica.us. Just heard hat one on MPR today. Crazy Minnesotans!

Hey Jeff, this is doable and I know you’re up to it.

Find a unique microbrew lager or ale (you pick beforehand) from every state and taste test. Journal your thoughts and pick a winner at the end of the trip. Maybe the winning brewery will use your story in an ad!!! Plus, you get to drink beer!

You will be somewhat limited based on the towns you hit but some early internet research might make it easier.

The way it looks right now, I’ll be going through Iowa near the end of the trip. If you and the rest of the Cedar Rapids crew are up for it, I’d love to hang out with you all and see your fair city.

@Alex Lo Rose is on the list; specifically, homecoming. It’ll be my first time in the Haute since 2008.

Cool, I didn’t know you’d make it back from the west coast that fast. We’ll be in touch.

    Jeff,
Shot in the dark…we need to get you some t-shirts made(fundraising, every little bit helps) with a list of the states and provinces on the back kinda in the order you have mapped out. Your “stop in every state and pucks in every province across the front”. Good luck in your quest

If you need a team to play with in Halifax Nova, Scotia, drop me a line or give me a call at 1-866-577-1234. I would likely be able to organize a bed too. Might even be able to get you out on a fishing boat…. David MacDonald

PS. I work with hockey players from almost every state and province (http://www.hockeyfamilyadvisor.com) and so if you need any help in organizing a game, I might be able to help.

Its a shame that the only thing you had to talk about in Idaho was your camera. If you ever head this way again, drop me a line, I think I can get you directed to a bit more fun than a pick up game at Ice World :o)

Awesome idea, something I would love to do myself!
